"Dream Small"

13"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?
Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
14You are the light of the world--like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
15No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."
Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT)
In the book of 1 Kings, we read how the prophet Elijah was told by God to go to Zerephath for nourishment because of a drought in the land. God told him that he had directed a widow woman to feed him. When he arrives, Elijah found the woman gathering some sticks for a fire. He asks her for water and then bread. It turns out that she only had a handful of flour and a little oil - that was it.  Her plan was to make a little loaf of bread, eat it with her son and then wait to die. God instructs her (through His prophet, Elijah) to feed Elijah first and then herself & her son. She obeyed. She trusted. And God did His part - He continually kept flour and oil in her jars until the rains finally came.
What that widow woman had to offer was so small YET, it was EVERYTHING she had. She did her part - She obeyed and trusted and God did His. I'm always so amazed when I see this played out in my own life and I often think I shouldn't be. Sometimes I have to confess to the Lord that my faith is truly the size of a "mustard seed." It's amazing that God can even use that "mustard seed" size faith to move mountains because we tend to focus on the "Small" while God focuses on the "Possible" because with Him, "NOTHING is impossible" - no matter how small or insignificant we think our contribution is.
God told her to give - and when mixed with His power - the offering of the flour & oil was a life-changer for both Elijah (the receiver) & the woman (the giver.)
Don't discount what God asks you to give because you think its too small to make a difference.  Sometimes I think we do that and we stop ourselves - yet God is ready to change a life through His power in our small offering - and most times, the life that is changed is our own.
We have spent a little over a month in a Missions Conference. We have been challenged and stirred. This is not the end but rather a beginning. A new day of serving and loving others in the name of Christ and through His power.
We are called to be the church. We are called to be a light and shine His light in a dark world. It won't be easy but it will be so worth it!! As we close out our 2018 Mission's Conference, let us challenge you to keep "Dreaming Small." Let God Use YOU and ALL you have to offer. We can change the world if we do our part and let God do His.
"We are called to take His light to a world where wrong seems right;
what can be so great a cost for sharing Christ with one who's lost?
People need the Lord!
When will we realize, that we must give our lives
for people need the Lord!
